Modal Verbs (and other expressions) to express Ability 1

Today we are looking at ways of expressing ability. 

Can is the modal verb used to talk about present ability. E.g. I can swim. 

Verb to be and able to are also used to talk about present ability. E.g. I am able to swim. In the present, able to is a little more formal than can, but they have the same meaning so it doesn’t matter which one you use.
