The poem speaker meets a child in rural areas and asks her how many siblings she has. She claims, "Seven in all," which implies she's one of seven children. Today we are looking at ways of expressing ability. 

Can is the modal verb used to talk about present ability. E.g. I can swim. 

Verb to be and able to are also used to talk about present ability. E.g. I am able to swim. In the present, able to is a little more formal than can, but they have the same meaning so it doesn’t matter which one you use.
