Singles Awareness Day
Every year, February 15 is recognised as Singles Awareness Day (or Singles Appreciation Day). Singles observe an unofficial holiday on this day. It is a complement to Valentineโs Day for individuals who are not married or in a romantic relationship. It is a celebration of love in all of its manifestations, honouring friendships, family, and self-love. Singles Awareness Day is observed by some in retaliation against Valentineโs Day, as a Hallmark holiday, or for other reasons.
Singles awareness day is frequently referred to as the polar opposite of Valentineโs Day, particularly when observed on February 14. Therefore, if you are single and abhor Valentineโs Day in all of its commercial splendour, this is the ideal celebration for you.
Originally, Valentineโs Day became a SAD (Singles Awareness Day) for those without significant others, and they revolted and reclaimed the acronym. Instead of indulging in a self-loathing soiree, they chose empowerment and self-love.
In the words of pop sensation, Lizzo, โTrue love finally happens when youโre by yourself.โ Singles Awareness Day is now observed by loving yourself!
The United Kingdom has designated two โdaysโ to celebrate singlehood. Due to the fact that Single Awareness Day is spelled SAD, a group of dating professionals decided to create National Singles Day to emphasise a more positive tone. It is observed on 11 March with the goal of empowering solitary people. In the United Kingdom, it is unknown who is responsible for SAD.
Solo Poly Day is also observed on March 11.
Singles Awareness Day brings together single individuals to celebrate or complain about their single state. Some like to emphasise to romantic couples that they are not have to be in a relationship in order to enjoy life.
SINGLES AWARENESS DAY HISTORY
Singles Awareness Day, like many great initiatives, grew out of sentiments of solitude. Around 2001, Dustin Barnes established a day for his circle of friends to celebrate their singleness rather than wallow in their sorrows. Not only did these group of high school boys choose February 15 as a protest against Valentineโs Day, but they also discovered a great sale on candy and love-themed things. What could possibly be more delectable than chocolate and truffles? Naturally, truffles and chocolates are 50% off.
Dustin continued the custom after graduating from high school and enrolling at Mississippi State University, where it gained popularity. Singles Awareness Day was first legally protected in 2005 and has grown in popularity since then. With nearly half of the United States’ population being single, it is unsurprising that this day has grown in popularity. College students began the day by giving gifts, holding parties, and going on friend dates.
Adults of various ages now commemorate the day to demonstrate that love does not require a partnership. You have the ability to love yourself, your family, and friends. There is no excuse to feel alone during Valentine’s Day when there is so much love all around. The holiday is evolving as individuals embrace their solitary status and celebrate self-love. On Instagram, the hashtag #SinglesAwarenessDay has garnered almost 55,000 posts.
Dustin eventually discovered a singles church group and met his wife there. You may meet your future spouse by participating in Singles Awareness Day. Never assume anything!
