A morpheme is the smallest meaningful unit of a language that can not be further broken into meaningful constituents. Morpheme(s) make(s) words. For example, the word ‘pen’ contains one morpheme as it can not be broken into smaller meaningful parts. It is the smallest meaningful linguistic unit. The word greenhouse contains two morphemes ‘green’ and ‘house’.
